5 Best Job Search Tools
The HR and Recruiting technology industry is crowded with tools that promise to help candidates find jobs, and companies to find talent. It is easy to get sucked into many different directions or into buying expensive monthly subscriptions.
Here are the best tools I have found to help you find your next job. Please note that these are more generalized options for you. If you are in retail, it is worth looking at retail-specific job boards, or if you are in software engineering, it is worth looking at technology-related job boards. However, if you are looking to cast a wide net, it doesn’t get any better than the tools below.
I have written several articles on the power of LinkedIn. It can help you get a job in so many different ways. You can find someone that works at the company and ask for a referral. You can reach out to a hiring manager or member of the company directly through a common group. You can get notified when new jobs get posted and apply in literally one click. And lastly, you can write a personalized message vs. an entire cover letter.
- Indeed
I am a bit sour when it comes to job boards. I think they are so out there, and you spend your time going from cookie-cutter job board to cookie-cutter job board to find roles. What I love about Indeed is it aggregates from most career sites and displays them on their website. It’s one-stop shopping when it comes to job boards.
- Glassdoor
I have been a bit indifferent on Glassdoor over the years. Often it’s a place where disgruntled employees will go to air their issues. With that being said, it is hard to find a better resource (other than a personal connection) to understand the types of roles a company has open or historically has open, and how they fit into the overall organization. Their career community pulls a lot of great information together for job seekers.
- ZipRecruiter
ZipRecruiter is excellent because it pays attention to your goals and interests. They use their technology to learn about your job preferences and gives you notices when a job opens up that meet those preferences. It is about working smarter, not harder.
- Google for Jobs
In 2017 Google added a job search feature, which makes it possible for job seekers to search for positions straight from Google. You can narrow down your job search objectives, and their unrivaled and powerful search engine gives you a list of curated jobs that have recently been indexed.
